South School Facilities and History

South Elementary School has been in existence since 1896, when the original brick school was constructed.

In 1951 an addition was built on the front of the original 3 story building.

This is the front of South Elem. as it looks today. This part of the building was built in 1951, but was modernized in 1970.

One special feature of two of the large classrooms is a "loft" which was constructed in the back corner of the first and second grade rooms.

New to South Elem this year is the Resource Room where Mrs. Kitzler works with special needs students.

At South, there is a multi-purpose room which serves as the cafeteria, the gymnasium, and home to USS Kids Club.

Also serving multi-purposes this year is the former preschool room. This room serves as the art room, the music room and the school library.

Directly behind the school is a modular building which houses several offices.

Behind the school and across the parking lot is the playground. It is difficult to photograph all the equipment in one picture because of the size of the playground!
